Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that it’s natural to have some reservations when asking another person to look after a beloved member of the family. Many of us have questions we need answered before we can trust in another. Wellington Park encourages you to question as we are confident that you will find the answers that will rest your conscience and develop your trust.

Here are some of the more regularly asked questions by pet owners:

Q: Do you have a cancellation Policy?

Q: Will my pet be well sheltered?

A: Yes, all our runs provide full shelter from direct sun and rain, some are even set up with air conditioning and heating facilities. Each sleeping quarter is fully protected from the elements and all bedding is provided.

Q: Are the pens big enough?

A: Yes, all our runs well exceed the legal requirements for boarding pets and most of our pens will house two pets together if needed or requested.

Q: What are the vaccinations requirements?

A: Having your pet fully immunised is a must for maintaining the highest level of health possible for all pets. For dogs Wellington Park requires that each dog has a current C5 vaccination (Distemper, Parvo Virus, Hepatitis, and the two strains of canine cough-Parainfluenza & Bordatella). Whilst for cats an F3 vaccination is required (Feline Enteritis, Feline Respiratory Disease, Cat flu)

Vaccinations need to be administered at least one week prior to boarding to ensure full protection for your animal.

Q: How do I know if my pet meets these requirements?

A: Your vet will be able to tell you the status of your pet’s vaccinations over the phone. If you are unable to find your pets ‘proof of vaccination’ card you can always contact your vet and they will happily fax a copy to us. WPK Fax: 9752-7524

Q: Can I bring my dogs bedding and/or toys?

A: Wellington Park happily provides all the bedding your pet will need, and with plenty of blankets and lambs wool cushions, both dogs & cats are well catered for. For the older or arthritic pets there are always a few extra covers to keep them cosy.

Unfortunately we do not accept your pet’s personal bedding. This helps us avoid being inundated with countless blankets that can quite easily be:

• Mistaken for another pet’s

• Destroyed

• In need of washing before returned

• Carrying a contagious virus upon arrival.

If you would like to bring something with your scent on it please feel free to bring; a sock, an old t-shirt, or a toy from home.

We feel strongly about providing clean bedding, and to ensure that your pet receives the finest quality care possible all bedding is laundered on a daily basis. We appreciate your understanding of this policy for the welfare of your dog and the longevity of their own bedding.

Q: What do you feed the pets?

A: Wellington Park is dedicated to feeding your pets to their individual requirements. Whether your pet needs 1, 2, or 3 meals a day, we’ll make sure they don’t miss a mouthful. All our food is premium quality and offers all the nutritious necessities essential for healthy living.

From the fresh meats and dry foods through to the tinned thereีs something for everyone. With fresh beef and chicken minces thereีs plenty for even the fussiest dog or cat. In the dry food and tinned range, we offer a great selection of Premium food for all dogs and cats.

Q: My pet has a special diet, can you cater for this?

A: Yes. We are more than happy to ensure your pet receives its own special diet. Please feel free to bring your pets own food for us to serve up but please be aware that there may be a small additional cost for this service.

Q: What time do I drop off and pick up?

A: Pets can arrive or depart any time within our normal business hours:

Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm.

Saturday 8am – 1pm.

and Sunday 3pm – 5pm.

Q: What if I can’t make it within the opening hours?

A: We have a great pick up and delivery service operating Monday to Friday that is not only safe and secure but is fantastic value for money. More importantly it is extremely convenient. One of our staff will come to your door and pick up/drop off your pet for you. Our drivers are on the road first thing in the morning and are the saviour to many families, business people and early morning holiday goers. This service takes the hard work out so you have more time to do the things you need to do.

Q: When do I pay?

A: Full payment is due when checking in at Wellington Park. We accept Cash, Visa, MasterCard, Bankcard, Eftpos, and Cheque (for stays longer than 4 days). Please note that for pets arriving on Sundays we require pre payment. Also there is a 2.5% surcharge when using credit cards.


Q: What training methods will you use?

A: There are a range of training techniques that can be used to train your dog, all of them fair and humane. We are more than happy to discuss any preferences you may have prior to your dog training with us.

Q: What are the trainers qualifications?

A: All of our trainers are accredited through the National Dog Trainers Federation and are certified in the following areas: Canine Psychology and Behaviour, Canine Health and all levels of Obedience training and instruction.

Q: Can I visit my dog during it’s training?

A: We strongly recommend you do not visit your dog during its training with us for 3 main reasons:

• It can often have a depressing effect on your dog, especially for those dogs who have a strong bond with their owners, and those who suffer from separation anxiety.

• Due to the stress of watching you come and then leave them again, the dogs training is interrupted and often set-back a few days.

• For your own benefit. With the implications above, the training will not be as thorough as it could be which ultimately costs you in terms of value for money.

Q: Will my dog obey me when it gets home?

A: At the completion of your dog’s training program you will receive your own private session with the trainer who trained your dog. After being briefed on your dog’s progress, our trainer and your dog will demonstrate the newly trained skills for you. Then, after reuniting you with your dog ‘you’ will be coached on how to perform and maintain these commands. And don't forget, we’re always just a phone call away.
